| Another 20 years; her request for clemency had been denied! Another 20, she didn't know how she would survive! Exiled to this the Island, walled and unreachable, the sea 1000 feet down. Her only companions the gulls that called to her and she was beginning to resent even them. The small amount of hope and joy their freedom had once given her was now dashed; she would never feel that kind freedom again. The yearning to fly with them, to reach the city and just wander through the crowds, was like a snake of envy growing inside; a yearning that became agony as real as if she herself lay broken on the rocks below. And the great sin she had committed, the dark taint on her Imperial soul that had doomed her! She had dared to defy her family; she had fallen in love with a commoner ... and even worse ... a foreigner! ********************************************** There is a whole bunch more to this story but I haven't had time to refine it so I won't subject you to any more ... |
